Fraud Investigator

£45,750 - £49,056 per annum

About the Role

As a Fraud Investigator within Newham’s Counter Fraud Team, you will lead complex investigations into housing, tenancy, Right to Buy, and wider corporate fraud. You will gather and evaluate evidence, conduct interviews under caution, and prepare cases for prosecution, civil action, or internal disciplinary proceedings.

The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and preventing fraud, including undertaking visits, enquiries, and partnership working with internal teams and external agencies. You will manage your own caseload, ensuring investigations are completed to a high standard, within legislative requirements and agreed timescales.

You will also contribute to strengthening fraud prevention by identifying emerging risks, recommending improvements to processes, and supporting the development of a strong anti-fraud culture across the Council.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist in the investigation of suspected fraud cases across various council services
  • Gather and analyse evidence, conduct interviews, and support enforcement actions
  • Work closely with internal departments and external agencies to share intelligence
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and case files
  • Learn and apply relevant legislation, policies, and investigative techniques
  • Attend court as required
What We’re Looking For

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and managing a diverse caseload
  • Experience in investigating housing fraud is desirable
  • Achieved full investigators status of Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist (ACFS) or equivalent professional counter fraud qualification
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
