Planning Officer Level 2 (Grade H) - Planning

Process and determine planning applications in accordance with relevant planning legislation, policies and procedures.

Assess development proposals against the Council's Local Plan, national planning policy and other material considerations.

Prepare clear and accurate planning reports, recommendations and case documentation.

Undertake site visits to assess planning applications, development proposals and compliance with planning requirements.

Provide professional planning advice to applicants, residents, agents, developers and other stakeholders.

Lead on allocated areas of planning work and manage cases effectively from initial submission through to determination.

Consult with internal Council departments, statutory consultees and external organisations on planning matters.

Investigate planning issues and make balanced, evidence-based recommendations on appropriate courses of action.

Monitor planning performance and ensure applications and other planning work are progressed within agreed timescales.

Contribute to planning committees, public meetings and other forums by preparing reports and presenting planning recommendations where required.

Respond professionally to enquiries, objections, representations and complaints relating to planning matters.

Support the enforcement of planning policies and investigate potential breaches of planning control when required.

Work across different planning specialisms as part of the service's rotation programme.

Maintain accurate planning records, case files and information systems in accordance with Council procedures.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to the Council's objectives, service standards, performance targets and cost-effective delivery of planning services.
