Planner, Government, Environmental & Urban Planning

Our client is currently seeking a dedicated Planner to join their team in the planning sector on a contract basis. This role involves handling a varied caseload of planning applications, including complex householders, prior approval, lawful development certificates, change of use, pre-application advice, and minor developments. You will also address related appeals at both delegated and committee levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Process a broad range of planning application proposals and provide high-quality pre-application advice, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal performance targets.
Communicate effectively with the public, Councillors, stakeholders, and agents.
Attend Planning Committee meetings and present your cases with support from a more senior member of staff, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
Lead on smaller planning appeals, including those dealt with via fast-track or written representations.
Maintain high standards of customer service and meet performance targets.
Liaise with statutory and non-statutory consultees to support applications, enforcement cases, and appeal determinations.
Interpret and apply relevant planning legislation and associated frameworks.
Ensure a structured and rigorous approach to continuous improvement.

Job Requirements:

Significant experience in town planning or a related field with a clear understanding of planning processes and legislation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to communicate with a wide range of audiences, including Councillors and the public.
Ability to write clear, concise, and well-structured reports.
Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to workload.
Ability to work well within a team and independently.
Skilled at understanding technical plans and documents.
Knowledge of planning policies and legislation.
Recognised degree in planning or a related discipline, or working towards completing such a degree. MRTPI or eligibility for membership is desirable.
