Policy Advisor, International, Climate Diplomacy & Geopolitics, London, Brussels or Berlin
E3G is looking for a Policy Advisor to support its Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics Programme (CDG) in driving forward our multilateral engagement work. The Policy Advisor will be based from either our London, Brussels or Berlin office, with a preference for London.
BackgroundE3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all.
We work on the frontier of the climate landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action.
E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania's Global Go To Think Tank Index.
ContextThe international system is entering a period of profound change. Geopolitical competition, economic uncertainty, conflict, energy security concerns and pressure on public finances are reshaping the conditions for international cooperation, while climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy are increasingly intertwined with questions of economic security, development and global stability.
In this context, effective climate action will depend on strengthening and adapting multilateral cooperation across institutions and fora. The UNFCCC and Paris Agreement remain central, but progress will also depend on how climate priorities are advanced through wider regional and global institutions, existing and emerging coalitions and partnerships as well as traditional major groupings such as the G7, G20 and BRICS.
The challenge is to navigate a more fragmented international landscape, identify new opportunities for cooperation and build political coalitions capable of delivering progress, while ensuring that the multilateral system remains responsive to the scale and urgency of the climate challenge.
A recognised global leader in innovative diplomacy, E3G is increasing its capacity to respond to the challenge of deepening global climate cooperation at a time of increasing international tension and fragmentation. Based in the Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics Team, the role of Policy Advisor serves as a critical position within the CDG team working to support our multilateral venues work, including the UNFCCC, G7 and G20, as well as our overall work around diplomacy and geopolitics.
The role will require experience building networks across civil society, government and private sector stakeholders, and a good understanding of international climate policy. We are open to candidates with experience and knowledge of other sectors (e.g. foreign policy, industry, energy transition more broadly) who have experience in network convening, foreign policy research or engagement and are keen for a new challenge.
This position will report to the Senior Policy Advisor for UNFCCC.
