Private Sector Housing Officer

West London
£45 per hour
6-month initial contract
Hybrid working - 2/3 days working from home

Are you an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer looking for your next London contract?

I'm working with a Local Authority in West London who are looking to appoint an experienced officer to join their busy Private Sector Housing service as soon as possible.

Working within the Reactive Compliance / Enforcement Team, you'll be responsible for managing housing standards cases, responding to service requests and investigating potential breaches across the private rented sector.

This is an enforcement-focused position rather than a role centred solely around processing HMO licence applications, so they are looking for someone confident carrying their own caseload and progressing cases independently.

Key Responsibilities:

Investigating housing complaints and reactive service requests.
Carrying out housing standards and HHSRS inspections.
Investigating unlicensed HMOs.
Preparing and serving relevant statutory notices.
Taking informal and formal enforcement action where required.
Managing cases from initial complaint through to resolution.
Supporting mandatory and additional HMO licensing work where required.
Liaising confidently with landlords, tenants and other stakeholders.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have:

Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
Practical experience carrying out property inspections.
Experience preparing and serving enforcement notices.
Confidence managing reactive enforcement cases independently.
Experience investigating HMOs and unlicensed properties.
The ability to manage a varied caseload and work with minimal supervision.

The council operates both mandatory and additional HMO licensing, with further growth expected within the service as it prepares for an upcoming Selective Licensing scheme.

The contract will initially run for 6 months, paying £45 per hour, with flexible hybrid working allowing approximately 2-3 days per week working from home. Site attendance will naturally be required for inspections and enforcement work.
