We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Southwarkto assist with the appointment of a Principal Enforcement Officer on a 3-month contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 37.13 - 49.05 per hour

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Principal Enforcement Officer to lead complex housing enforcement investigations within the private rented sector. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with housing legislation licensing requirements and property standards while protecting residents from poor housing conditions. This role requires extensive enforcement experience strong investigative skills and the ability to represent the Council in legal proceedings.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex housing enforcement investigations inspections and compliance activities across private rented properties and HMOs.
  • Prepare and serve statutory notices civil penalties prosecution files witness statements and represent the Council in courts and tribunals.
  • Conduct property inspections gather evidence undertake PACE interviews and ensure enforcement actions comply with housing legislation and Council policies.
  • Provide expert advice to officers managers elected Members and partner agencies while supporting service improvement and mentoring colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate case records monitor enforcement outcomes analyse performance data and work collaboratively with Legal Services and external partners.

Essentials:

  • Significant experience in housing enforcement private sector housing or environmental health enforcement.
  • Experience investigating breaches of housing legislation and licensing requirements.
  • Experience preparing legal documentation and representing cases in court or tribunals.
  • Experience working with the Housing Act 2004 HMO legislation and regulatory enforcement processes.
