This is an exciting opportunity to join UK Finance’s Public Affairs and Public Policy team, part of our wider Corporate Affairs function, and build a career working at the intersection of politics, public policy and financial services. You will help UK Finance understand and respond to the fast-moving political environment in which our members operate and support our engagement with Parliament, government and political stakeholders.
Working as part of an experienced team, you will monitor and analyse political and parliamentary developments, support UK Finance’s engagement with politicians and policymakers, and contribute to advocacy campaigns on behalf of our members. You will work closely with colleagues across UK Finance’s policy teams, giving you exposure to a broad range of financial services businesses and policy issues.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in politics and public affairs to deepen their knowledge of Westminster and Whitehall, develop their political judgement and advocacy skills, and gain experience working at the heart of UK financial services.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and analyse political developments
, including government announcements, parliamentary debates, legislation, select committees and other developments relevant to UK Finance and its members. - Provide clear and timely political intelligence for colleagues and members, identifying significant developments and helping the team assess their implications for UK Finance’s priorities.
- Support UK Finance’s political engagement
, including researching and preparing for meetings with parliamentarians, ministers, advisers and other political stakeholders. - Help deliver public affairs campaigns on priority issues, supporting the Public Affairs and Policy team on the development and implementation of effective political engagement strategies.
- Support UK Finance’s work on legislation and in Parliament
, including tracking Bills and amendments, identifying parliamentary opportunities and helping prepare briefings and other advocacy materials. - Build and maintain political relationships
, developing your own network across Westminster and supporting the team’s wider engagement across political parties. - Help to prepare public affairs materials
, including political updates, stakeholder briefings, correspondence and contributions to campaign materials. - Support political events and engagement programmes
, including parliamentary round tables, receptions, visits and UK Finance’s activity at party conferences. - Contribute flexibly to the wider work of the Public Affairs and Public Policy team as priorities develop.
The role will involve attendance at external political and policy events and occasional travel and out-of-hours work.
