Adecco are recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority for a Public Protection Officer.

Salary: £23.27 per hour PAYE / £30.38 per hour Umbrella

The Role

As a Public Protection Officer, you will play a key role in protecting residents and improving environmental standards across the borough. You will investigate complaints relating to environmental protection and statutory nuisance matters, with a particular focus on noise nuisance cases.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Investigating statutory nuisance and environmental protection complaints
  • Conducting enforcement activities and serving notices where required
  • Managing a varied environmental protection caseload
  • Providing comments and advice on licensing applications, planning applications, and Section 61 consents
  • Attending court proceedings, hearings, and tribunals to provide evidence
  • Leading on prosecutions in line with the Council's Enforcement Policy
  • Using noise monitoring equipment and interpreting results where necessary
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver an effective service
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience investigating statutory nuisance cases, particularly noise complaints
  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation and enforcement processes
  • Experience serving statutory notices and undertaking enforcement action
  • Strong report writing, communication, and case management skills
  • The ability to manage a diverse and demanding caseload effectively
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems
  • Experience attending court or formal hearings would be highly advantageous
  • Experience using noise monitoring equipment is desirable
  • A Degree, Diploma, or relevant professional qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Protection, or a related discipline (or equivalent)
