Job Summary
The NEPTS Ambulance Driver performs a key role in providing a safe transport service for patients requiring transport to and from the Trust's hospitals ensuring that all patients are transported in a timely manner in comfort and with minimal stress. The Ambulance Drivers are also responsible for conducting dynamic risk assessments of patients and/or their environment before they are transported in non‑emergency situations.
Responsibilities- Provide driving service for patients requiring transport to and from the Trust's hospitals.
- Ensure patients are transported in comfort, with minimal stress and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments of patients and their environment before transport.
- Maintaining patient transport vehicles in a clean and tidy manner and reporting any defects or accidents immediately.
- Move patients using wheelchairs, chairs, stretchers or car‑suitable vehicles.
- Work within a team and plan good and economical routes.
- BTEC or NVQ3 equivalent education.
- Good knowledge of UK geography.
- Clean driving licence.
- Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting, dealing with the elderly or infirm.
- Experience of working within a patient transport environment.
- Understanding of Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Caldicott Principles.
- Ability to work on own initiative, organise and prioritise workloads under tight deadlines.
- Ability to complete dynamic risk assessments before patient transfer to ensure safety.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Problem‑solving and decisiveness in difficult and contentious situations.
- Ability to plan good and economical routes.
- Freedom of Information Act knowledge and equal opportunities policies and procedures.
- Professional calm and effective manner when dealing with difficult circumstances.
- Dependability and adaptability, able to work under pressure.
- Honesty/trustworthiness, self‑discipline, flexibility, empathy and discretion.
- Advanced driving qualifications.
- Appreciation of the relationship between the CCG, the Patient User Group and Clinical groups.
- Appreciation of CQC requirements as they relate to patient transport services.
- Willingness to undertake training programmes.
- Sense of humour.
