An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in our busy day facility, which includes a fast-paced day unit and outpatient clinics. Patients often move between both areas on the same day, so teamwork and flexibility are essential.

About us
  • Day Ward:
    Specialises in metabolic and endocrine testing, plus referrals from other specialties.
  • Clinics:
    Growth hormone, thyroid care, osteoporosis, diabetic services (foot care, sexual health, hepatology), endocrine, and metabolic clinics.
About the role
  • You’ll join a team of six healthcare assistants, rotating through tasks such as:
  • Reception and booking appointments
  • Handling telephone enquiries
  • Vital signs taking, measuring and weighing patients
  • Taking blood samples
  • ECG recording
  • Preparing for clinics and multidisciplinary meetings

Main duties of the job
  • Provide effective and efficient clerical and reception support to Diabetes & Endocrine Centre y’s Hospital, ensuring that administration processes meet the needs of all service users.
  • Assist and support the department, with the delivery of metabolic, endocrine and diabetes diagnostic tests, with the needs of the patient at the Metabolic Day Ward and Diabetes & Endocrine Centre.
  • Follow all Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT) policies and provide a safe and person-centred environment for the treatment of patients.
  • The post holder is responsible for delivering high standards of care, providing services in accordance with the Trust’s values and behaviours to support the clinical and administrative team in the delivery of patient care which is safe and effective.

Person Specification Education/qualifications
  • Completed Care Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Able to demonstrate literacy, numeracy and communication skills in English to carry out the duties of the role (known as functional skills), or GCSE or equivalent experience
  • Bedside Emergency Assessment Course for HCA's (BEACH) or willingness to undertake
  • Further qualifications and relevant training
  • Level 2 or 3 Health Care qualification/apprenticeship, or completion of Band 3 Excellence in Care Competencies for existing Band 2 substantive HCSW
Experience
  • Experience of working in Acute Hospital setting or care background, in a Band 2 HCSW role or equivalent
  • Experience of delivering personal care to patients
  • Experience of using computers or willing to undertake training in local computer systems
  • Experience of taking clinical observations
Skills
  • Knowledge of basic IT systems or willing to undertake training
  • Phlebotomy certificate/relevant certificate
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Previous experience of complex health needs
  • ECG taking
  • Competently perform a range of core skills relevant to the area of speciality
