This post offers an individual the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in the area of Oncology and contribute to the highly motivated and innovative cancer pharmacy clinical team.

Main duties of the job

This job presents an exciting opportunity for you to further develop your expertise in all aspects of oncology. You will gain clinical and managerial experience from working within our well-established team of oncology pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

The position is based at St Bartholomew's Hospital but you will also visit other sites within Barts Health. This post will allow you to develop your managerial skills and gain in depth experience in clinical trials, commissioning, finance and e-prescribing as well as providing you the opportunity to provide clinical pharmacy services to a wide array of Cancer patients including solid tumour, haemato-oncology and haematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Specialist postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent Specialist postgraduate certificate in technical services

    E.g., national course in PTQA, or equivalent knowledge and experience or Specialist postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Clinical /Technical Modules or equivalent experience:

    - oncology - aseptic dispensing for NHS patients
  • Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards
Other
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
Experience
  • nificant post registration in a hospital based post
  • Previous experience of working within oncology providing a pharmacy service to oncology wards
  • Previous experience of working within aseptics, including chemotherapy delivery
  • Experience of supervising cytotoxic reconstitution services
  • Experience in successfully managing and organising staff and work / projects
  • Previous experience of undertaking evaluations or reviews of cancer medicines
Knowledge
  • Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical care needs of oncology patients
  • Knowledge of all aspects of GMP, QA and QMS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of aseptics/ parenterals e.g., formulation, stability and administration
  • An awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to oncology patients
  • Awareness of new developments in cancer therapy
Skills
