Overview
We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our schools’ team as an Autism Specialist. This post is 3 days a week and you would hold a small clinical caseload and provide a range of support for the school-based SLTs in our team.
Responsibilities- Training SLTs or school staff on a range of topics linked to autism
- Supervision of junior SLTs in the team
- Joint sessions with school-based SLTs to provide advice and support on complex cases
- Quality checking EHCP advice and supporting staff to write high quality reports
- Ensuring our service is offering up-to-date, evidence-based advice and support in the area of autism and social communication differences
You will have a key role in our Autism pathway across mainstream schools (primary and secondary) and link up with colleagues in our Under 5s SCD team along with professionals in Educational Psychology and the Phoenix Outreach Team.
About the ServiceThe Community Children’s Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service sits in the Specialist Community Children’s Services within the Children and Young People’s Division of Barts Health NHS Trust. It offers a community-based service to the children of Tower Hamlets and is delivered predominantly in clinics, schools, pre-school settings and service users’ homes. It aims to address the communication and eating and drinking needs of the child population through the provision of universal, targeted and specialist level services.
Services are commissioned by a range of commissioners including the Clinical Commissioning Group, Local Authority and individual schools.
The post holder is an autonomous and highly specialist practitioner who provides assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and intervention in the management of children and young people with social communication difficulties or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They will work flexibly within the team to meet the needs of children in mainstream schools and community settings. The post holder provides clinical support in the specialist area of social communication disorders and ASD, and clinical supervision to junior speech and language therapists.
This will include providing support for SLTs writing Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment advice. They will be required to line manage speech and language therapists.
