Job Summary

Westminster, and Kensington & Chelsea

We have the opportunity for an NQP or experienced Band 5 therapist to join the Bib borough SLT education team. The post includes working with a varied caseload across schools in the inner London boroughs of Westminster, and Kensington & Chelsea. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, and an interest and experience of working with school-aged children and young people.

Main duties of the job
  • To manage and prioritise own caseload independently, generating appropriate strategies for caseload management.
  • To assess the need for, develop, and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children referred within locality, and provide advice to others regarding the management and care of children with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties as required within the role.
  • To assess children's language and communication needs, and provide professional advice to contribute to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments) and the annual review process for individual children in line with the Children and Families Act 2014.
  • To deliver Speech and Language Therapy provision to children as specified in Education Health and Care Plans in line with the Children and Families Act 2014.
  • To analyse auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of children's communication, and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness in relevant setting.

Essential

  • Qualifications
    • Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice - Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
    • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
  • Experience
    • Working with children in school based settings

Desirable

  • Experience Training others
  • Working with multi-cultural client groups
Skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal, non-verbal and written
  • Ability to adapt communication skills to meet the needs of others, and demonstrate empathy and sensitivity
  • Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with a broad range of speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to carry out swallowing assessment and use of high and low technical assessment equipment
  • Understanding of child development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
  • Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for children with Speech, Language and Communication needs
  • Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to school-aged children) including education practice and policy
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge of principles and models of Adult-Child Interaction
