The Nuclear Medicine Imaging Assistant plays a key role in supporting the safe and effective delivery of Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT services across the Trust's sites. Working within a busy and highly specialised environment, the post holder will contribute to the smooth running of clinical sessions, ensuring that patients receive high-quality, compassionate care at every stage of their pathway. As part of a multidisciplinary team--including Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Radiographers, Consultants, Nurses, Physicists, Radiation Protection Experts, and administrative staff--the Imaging Assistant helps facilitate accurate diagnostic imaging by supporting both clinical and administrative aspects of the service.

The role involves significant patient interaction, with responsibilities that include assisting with patient preparation, providing clear and empathetic communication, and ensuring a positive patient experience throughout the visit. The Imaging Assistant is also responsible for essential operational tasks such as room preparation, equipment quality control checks, data input, waste management, and stock organisation. Working flexibly across multiple hospital sites, the post holder must be able to adapt to changing demands, manage workload priorities, and maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

The post holder will play a critical part in supporting the delivery of a safe, efficient, and caring service, contributing to the department's commitment to the Trust's WeCare values and its ambition for excellence.

The main responsibility of the Imaging Assistant is to support Nuclear Medicine Technologists and Radiographers in the delivery of high-quality Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT imaging. This includes assisting with patient preparation, escorting patients, and providing clear explanations of procedures to ensure comfort, understanding, and cooperation.

Operational duties include preparing clinical rooms--such as injection and imaging rooms--ensuring stocks are replenished, equipment is clean and ready for use, and supporting aseptic setup of clinical trolleys where required. The post holder will take part in essential daily tasks such as morning quality control checks on imaging equipment, end-of-day radiation monitoring, and appropriate recording and reporting of results in line with department protocols.
