Overview
An excellent opportunity to hire a Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse or Dietitian (Adult), to offer expert assistance in enhancing access to diabetes technology for patients with Type 1 diabetes. We are looking for passionate professionals to become part of a dynamic team that offers development opportunities to enhance their experience in diabetes within a multidisciplinary workforce. The post will require working across the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL) hospital sites, supporting inpatient and outpatient services in delivering access to diabetes technology.
Responsibilities- To provide autonomous diabetes care for patients with diabetes using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of diabetes technology therapy.
- To lead and autonomously manage a caseload of patients with diabetes who have multiple and complex needs including complex Type 1 and 2 diabetes, ante-natal, renal and initiation of CGM/pump therapy within the inpatient and outpatient diabetes service.
- To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports expert practice within diabetes.
- To lead and innovate diabetes-related specialist practice, both within the Trust and through local networks.
- To develop diabetes guidelines, protocols and policies for the Trust.
- To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education.
- To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multidisciplinary mandatory training and teaching.
- To provide specialist advice to inpatient diabetes service by receiving direct referrals from members of other multidisciplinary teams.
- To work flexibly in response to service needs, to provide cover to all Trust sites as required (Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals and our satellite outpatient sites Edgware Community Hospital and Finchley Memorial).

Education & professional qualificationsEssential
- Registered Dietitian or Dietitian (sic) with relevant first degree
- Specialist Diabetes Course
- DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating or equivalent)
Desirable
- Educated to or willing to work to Masters level
- Independent or Supplementary prescriber
- Advanced clinical assessment skills
- Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification
Essential
- Recent extensive experience in specialist inpatient and outpatient diabetes care
- Recent extensive experience in Diabetes technology, Pumps/HCL/CGM
- Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff
- Able to demonstrate contribution to clinical protocols
- Experience of supervising other healthcare professionals

- Understanding of the role, competencies of the post, awareness of own boundaries and other members of the health care team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of strategic and national issues pertinent to dietetics and diabetes care
