Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated and adaptive Sonographers to joinour friendly and diverse ultrasound team. Obstetrics ultrasound experience is essential, and we welcome applications from various professional backgrounds including Midwife‑Sonographers. Experience and skills in General, Gynaecology, Small parts, DVT and Musculoskeletal are also desired. All successful candidates will be supported by a preceptorship program based on their level of experience and skills.

Candidates must hold either a Pg Cert / Dip / MSc or DMU qualification in Medical Ultrasound and professional registration with a statutory regulated body (such as the HCPC, NMC) or the Register for Clinical Technologists. All staff members are required to participate in the 7‑day service, and it is usual to compress hours into 8 am‑6 pm or 8 am‑8 pm shift patterns, which includes one weekend per month.

Novel ways of working and role expansion to develop enhanced and advanced clinical pathways are both supported and encouraged.

Salary and Contract

Band 7 inc. HCAS and £5 000 short‑term RRP (pro‑rata) which is reviewed annually.

Contract:

7 days / 12‑hour contract (usually compressed into 8 am‑6 pm or 8 am‑8 pm shift patterns, which includes one weekend per month).

Location

Based at The Royal London Hospital with cross‑site rotation to Mile End and St Bartholomew's Hospitals.

Main Duties of the Job

The post‑holder will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure that appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging with cross‑site rotation covering The Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and Mile End Hospital. The post‑holder will work within departmental protocols as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient.

The post‑holder will also liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the Women's Health Division, as well as the Radiologists in the General Ultrasound Department. In the absence of a Lead Sonographer, the post‑holder will oversee the day‑to‑day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively. The post‑holder will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.

  • Post Graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound. Case Accredited Ultrasound qualification.
  • Current and up‑to‑date state registration through a regulatory body (HCPC; NMC or GMC) or through the Register for Clinical Technologists.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of current and emerging ultrasound techniques and relevant topics/professional issues.
