Job Overview

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Staff Nurse to join our Healthcare Service at Oasis Restore Secure School (ORSS).

The Staff Nurse role is responsible for the delivery of compassionate nursing care and health promotion services, providing a healthy child programme to 12-18-year-olds at the Oasis Restore Secure School. Nurses work closely with the children who use our services, their families, friends, and carers and play an important contribution in how children experience our services.

Staff nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by drawing support from more experienced nurses and other health professionals but also by supervising other staff and student nurses to ensure they are working to the standards which the children using our services deserve.

ORSS is the first Secure School in the UK and will hold 12-18 year old children. All staff work in line with ‘Child First’ principles to create a developmentally appropriate and trauma informed healthcare service. You will support the School Nurses in providing a comprehensive school nursing service and work as part of an integrated healthcare service which includes primary care, mental health, substance misuse and a sexual behaviour service. Staff nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:

• Keeping the children who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
• Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up‑to‑date skills and adhering to evidence‑based policies and procedures
• Ensuring the children using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

The postholder is expected to deliver trauma‑informed, culturally sensitive care, considering the developmental needs of the children, and ensuring consideration of the impact of their experiences on their current strengths, needs and difficulties. Developing good therapeutic relationships with the children and their families, is key for this post and in the wider service delivery.

Oasis Restore is the first UK secure school enabling young people to live their best lives, through education well‑being and hope. We will care for children aged 12-18 who are on remand and sentenced to custody by the courts. We have a Health and Justice Services Directorate, within which sits the ‘Children and Young People’ Service line working in partnership with ‘Youth Custody Service’ colleagues to provide responsive, trauma‑informed primary care, mental health, neuro‑developmental and substance misuse services to the young people and young adults within our care.
