Research Scientist, Clinical Research
We are looking for a post‑doctoral researcher to be part of an exciting new project funded by Breast Cancer Now. You will work on a study aiming to design a training module for radiographers to help reduce the experience of pain during breast cancer screening. The project will initially involve conducting a series of focus groups with providers and clients, particularly women from ethnic minority groups.
Results will be used to develop and test a prototype training module.
Based at our Charterhouse Square/Whitechapel campuses, this three‑year project will involve collaborative working with multi‑disciplinary colleagues in the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention, and Early Diagnosis and Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) representatives.
Applicants should have a PhD (or close to completion) in applied health‑related social science (e.g. health psychology). We are looking for candidates with experience of running research studies and managing and analysing data related to psychological and behavioural aspects of cancer or pain management. Excellent self‑motivation and communications skills, experience of qualitative data collection and experience of developing and/or delivering training sessions for healthcare professionals are essential.
The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to more than 450 staff, 100 PhD students and c500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population‑based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre‑specific objectives and requirements.
The Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis (CCSPED) forms part of the WIPH and brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, cancer screening and detection and early diagnosis across three units, including the CRUK‑funded Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU, Director – Sasieni). CCSPED also hosts the cross‑cutting Cancer Behavioural Science group.
