The candidate will participate in delivering the echo service with the cardiology department. The individual will work alongside the team of 7 other BSE echocardiographers, 2 trainees , 3 imaging consultants and with the wider cardiac physiology team to perform transthoracic echocardiograms as well as assist with stress and transoesophageal echocardiograms. As a teaching hospital the successful candidate will be expected to support our trainee echocardiographers to achieve their BSE accreditation.

The echo service is open 8am to 6pm on weekdays and also provide inpatient/outpatient weekend service. The individual will be expected to participate in this comprehensive service and flexible working pattern will be considered.

Main duties of the job
  • Personally perform and report echocardiograms to a high standard, meeting BSE guidelines and departmental local standards.
  • Work alongside the lead cardiac physiologist to provide structured training to junior cardiac physiologists and doctors with a view to their subsequent BSE accreditation.
  • Maintain own BSE accreditation by ensuring appropriate CPD is up to date and course requests highlighted to the Head of Department in a timely manner.
  • To provide an efficient running of the technical service by prioritising daily workloads.
  • To maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of non-invasive, technical cardiac procedures.
  • Remain up to date with current evidence in echocardiography.
  • Ensures that all echo studies are accurately recorded in our reporting system and outcome appropriately on the patient electronic record.
  • Ensure smooth running of outpatient echo clinics so that patients are seen on time and receive a high quality of care.
  • To jointly oversee the day to day running of the echo service, ensuring that all equipment is operational, clean and that stock levels are adequate.
  • Support inpatient ward echo service including portable echoes and urgent/emergency service to intensive and acute care units.
