Rate: £25.00 – £27.50 per hour
We are currently seeking a skilled and confident Band 6 Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join the acute therapy team at West Middlesex University Hospital. This role is based primarily on the acute wards, with potential cross-cover to the stroke unit, supporting adults with complex medical needs.
The successful candidate will work autonomously within an acute caseload, delivering high-quality dysphagia assessment, management, and rehabilitation, alongside communication input as required. This opportunity is ideal for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist who is confident working in a fast-paced acute hospital environment and committed to delivering safe, patient‑centred care.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with dysphagia and communication difficulties within acute medical wards.
- Deliver dysphagia rehabilitation and provide evidence‑based recommendations to ensure patient safety and effective care.
- Manage an acute caseload independently, prioritising referrals and managing clinical risk appropriately.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in line with HCPC and trust standards.
- Provide education and guidance to patients, families, and ward staff regarding swallowing and communication needs.
- A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Dysphagia competency with experience working within adult acute hospital settings.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound clinical judgement.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
