Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated and adaptive Sonographers to join our friendly and diverse ultrasound team. Obstetrics ultrasound experience is essential, and we welcome applications from various professional backgrounds including Midwife Sonographers. Experience and skills in General, Gynaecology, Small parts, DVT and Musculoskeletal is also desired. All successful candidates will be supported by a preceptorship program based on their level of experience and skills.
Candidates must hold either a Pg Cert / Dip / MSc or DMU qualification in Medical Ultrasound and professional registration with a statutory regulated body (such as the HCPC, NMC) or the Register for Clinical Technologists.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary imaging team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure that appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. Maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging with cross-site rotation covering The Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Mile End Hospital.
- Undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to ultrasound guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. Work within departmental protocols as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient.
- Liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the Women’s Health Division, as well as Radiologists in the General Ultrasound Department.
- In the absence of a Lead Sonographer, oversee the day-to-day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively.
- Promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.

- All staff members are required to participate in the 7-day service, and it is usual to compress hours into 8am-6pm or 8am-8pm shift patterns, which includes 1 weekend per month.
- Salary – Band 7 inc. HCAS and £5,000 short term RRP (pro-rata) which is reviewed annually.

Based at The Royal London Hospital with cross-site rotation to Mile End and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals.
