Job Summary
As a sonographer at Wood Green CDC, you will be at the forefront of providing exemplary patient care through the skilled performance and accurate reporting of ultrasound examinations, as prescribed by healthcare professionals. Compensation& Working Details
- Band 7
- Salary: £53,751 to £60,651 a year (inclusive of Outer HCAS per annum)
- Contract:
Permanent - Working pattern:
Full‑time - Working hours may include extended days and weekends as required by AfC terms and conditions.
- Retention premium: £2,000 per year
- Reporting allowance based on skill set (details in person specification)
- Conduct a comprehensive range of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, renal, gynaecological, testicular, thyroid, abdominal wall, groin and MSK scans.
- Act independently in the assessment of referrals for ultrasound examinations, taking full responsibility for the justification of general ultrasound examinations.
- Maintain a high level of expertise in the safe operation of ultrasound equipment and manage faults effectively.
- Comply with and contribute to the implementation of departmental and professional policies and procedures such as health & safety, COSHH, ALARA principles, quality assurance, clinical effectiveness, and clinical audit.
- Prioritise patients, organise cover, and communicate effectively with the imaging department and wider Trust environment.
- Raise issues appropriately and face-to-face with relevant individuals to resolve conflicts, maintaining iCARE behaviours.
- Provide leadership and supervision to junior grades during busy periods and with patients requiring multiple examinations.
- Ensure safe handling of equipment and accessories, record faults, and report them to the Lead Sonographer.
- Trubble‑shoot equipment faults and devise appropriate provisions for service continuity.
- Provide advice, reassurance, and help to junior staff, delegating non‑clinical tasks as necessary.
- Assist in implementing and developing service protocols and audit programmes within the ultrasound department.
- Actively involved in the training and assessment of student sonographers, radiographers and other learners on clinical placement, providing direct supervision.
- Perform all specified ultrasound examinations in accordance with departmental policies and protocols, having first assessed the clinical requirement.
- Provide a formal report of findings and expert clinical advice to clinicians, verbally or in written form.
- Obtain patient consent and cooperation for examinations in accordance with the Patients Charter and departmental policies.
- Prioritise workload based on clinical condition and direct impact on patient management.
- Refer patients for follow‑up examinations and other imaging modalities when clinically necessary.
- Maintain accurate patient records and comply with data protection and the Data Protection Act.
- Participate in mandatory training and continuous professional development.
- Participate in induction and training of new staff and support undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
- Assist in training sonography and medical staff in specialised areas.
- Provide assistance and be actively involved in departmental projects and audits.
- Attend mandatory training and pursue additional training courses or study days.
- Work with senior sonographers for direct supervision and training of junior staff.

Qualifications:
oPgC or higher in Ultrasound (or equivalent). - Desirable
Qualifications:
MSc in Ultrasound, Evidence of continuing professional development, Evidence of involvement in audit PgC equivalent in reporting modality, DCR or degree in Radiography. - Essential
