An exciting opportunity to join the NHS's largest and fastest-growing multidisciplinary Neurogastroenterology department. The service comprises specialist gastroenterologists, clinical scientists, psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, psychologists and dietitians, working together to deliver highly specialised care for patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders.

The post-holder will independently perform, analyse and report a range of gastrointestinal physiology investigations, working closely with medical and allied health professional colleagues to support diagnosis and management. The role offers structured support from the Lead Clinical Scientist and consultant clinicians, alongside wider operational and professional support within the department.

The post-holder will independently perform upper and lower gastrointestinal physiology investigations, including:

• Oesophageal manometry
• Ambulatory reflux monitoring (24‑hour pH‑impedance and 96‑hour Bravo)
• Anorectal manometry
• Body surface gastric mapping (Alimetry)

The role also includes supporting the delivery of hydrogen breath testing and panometry (EndoFLIP) studies.

In addition to diagnostic testing, the post-holder will contribute to service development, audit and quality‑improvement activity, with opportunities to lead projects aligned to personal interests and departmental priorities. There is also strong support for involvement in research within the service.

The post-holder will be responsible for the safe use, technical oversight and day‑to‑day management of specialist medical devices and equipment, ensuring compliance with local and national governance standards.

The GI Physiology team is a close‑knit team made up of Consultants, Clinical Scientists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Psychologists, Health care assistants and administrative staff. We offer ongoing training and development, clinical supervision and professional support.

The role requires regular direct patient contact, including explaining procedures, obtaining informed consent, responding to patient concerns and adapting communication to individual needs to ensure a positive and supportive patient experience.
