Job summary

The Hearing Implant Centre at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Paediatric Audiological Scientist to join its team.

This is a fixed term secondment cover, either full or part time for 12 months.

The Hearing Implant Centre is based at the St Thomas' Hospital site, situated across the river Thames from the Houses of Parliament.

This post involves providing specialist audiological care at the Hearing Implant Centre for paediatric cases.

Working autonomously within the Hearing Implant Centre, the post holder will be responsible for the highly specialist audiological assessment and rehabilitative management of children referred for Cochlear Implants (CI), Bone Conduction Implants (BCI), Middle Ear Implants (MEI), and Auditory Brainstem Implants (ABI).

The post holder will work closely with other Audiological Scientists, Speech and Language Therapists, Teachers of the Deaf, Clinical Psychologists, and ENT Consultants within the hearing implant centre team to devise specific management plans to ensure that optimal post-surgical hearing outcomes are achieved. This includes highly specialist counselling of patients and their families, complex audiological assessment and fitting of complex speech processors using various programming strategies.

The successful candidate will be involved in the assessment, activation and ongoing programming of implants, outcome measures, and provision of ongoing support to children referred to the Hearing Implant Centre for Cochlear Implants, Middle Ear Implants and Bone Conduction Implants, and Auditory Brainstem Implants. Additional training to supplement knowledge will be provided; although experience within the field of implantable devices is desirable.

Candidates should have an MSc in Audiology or a related subject, have completed STP/CAC clinical competency exams or possess an equivalent level of training and experience from an accredited training centre and be registered to practice as a Clinical Scientist (Audiology) with the HCPC or an Audiologist with the RCCP.
