The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pharmacy Public Health team, supporting vaccination programmes and related health protection work across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This role offers the chance to develop your skills and experience in a specialist governance setting within Pharmacy Services.

You will play a key role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of vaccination programmes by supporting governance processes and cold chain management. Working closely with Specialist Pharmacy Technicians, you will contribute to training, education, and planning activities, as well as responding to cold chain incidents.

The postholder will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and independently as required.

Travel between clinics as needed to support operational requirements.

Candidates should be able to have demonstrable experience working with members of the public or patients and have strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues and the public. There will be a need to have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry systems are also essential.

This would be ideal for someone looking to further develop their skills, knowledge and experience in a different setting and explore one of the Board wide specialist team settings within the Governance Team in Pharmacy Services.

The role is based within PPH at West House, Gartnavel Royal and will provide support for the Specialist Pharmacy Technicians within the team.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Location based in Gartnavel Royal Hospital
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full-time position (37 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities
  • To provide cover for routine duties as occurring within the specialist area or department as required.
  • To complete vaccine usage, audit and other statistical data gathering and disseminate information as appropriate.
  • Gather and contribute to analysis of information to support reporting within the team and wider public health management in relation to vaccines and incidents.
  • To identify and liaise with Pharmacy Technicians regarding vaccine discrepancies or temperature fluctuations.
  • To demonstrate activities to new members of staff and participate in their induction.
  • Act as a point of contact for the pharmacy public health team e.g. respond to telephone calls, emails, or MS Teams messages regarding Freedom of Information requests, medicine related communications; and patient safety alerts and be able to triage the information to the most appropriate member
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • Experience of dealing with the public.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Experience of working in an administrative role.
  • Experience in the NHS or a Healthcare role is desirable.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Good knowledge of vaccines commonly prescribed within local and national programmes.
  • Awareness of law and good practice related to prescribing, storage and handling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Excellent computer skills – Outlook 365, Microsoft Teams
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Adaptable and flexible, open to different systems of working and able to assist in identifying potential for progress.
  • Show willingness to participate in service development, and peer review.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and work in line with NHS GGC confidentiality policy.
  • Adhere to the General Pharmaceutical Council Standards for Pharmacy Professionals.
  • Undertake mandatory training requirements in accordance with NHS GGC policy and procedure.
  • Commitment to working towards, or have achieved, SQSF Level 6 in Pharmacy Services.
