We are looking for physically capable, motivated, caring and compassionate individuals to join the Non‑Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Barts Health as Patient Transport Drivers (PTDs).
Our NEPTS provides transport for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals by any other means because of their medical or mobility condition. All requests for transport are assessed on medical need. Transport is only provided for patients coming from their home addresses to North East London NHS Trust locations and for patients going home from a North East London NHS Trust location to a booked address stated by the ward or clinic anywhere in mainland UK.

- 2 years driving experience and a full manual UK driving licence.
The NEPTS Patient Transport Driver performs a key role in providing a safe transport service for patients attending appointments and procedures at our Trust’s hospitals.
Responsibilities- Ensure all patients are safely transported in a timely manner, treating them with dignity and respect.
- Undertake dynamic risk assessments of patients and their environment.
- Work to the highest standards and report defects and patient‑related concerns (e.g., safeguarding). Treat and care for patients within their scope of training and recognise when to escalation to emergency services if a patient becomes unwell.
- Lifting, moving and handling patients and equipment. Post requires significant moving and handling, including transfer to and from homes and vehicle, using a variety of equipment (carry chairs, wheelchairs, stair climbers, stretchers).
- Perform lifting of equipment and patients – a key requirement.
- Drive Trust vehicles, maintaining road safety and vehicle condition, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, fully equipped, fuelled and tidy. Report defects or accidents immediately.
Must have at least two years of driving experience and hold a full manual driving licence. Applicants with points and endorsements should declare them; licence status will be checked.
