Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pathology Operations Management Team, within the Group Clinical Services Division at the Royal Free. The role will provide operational support and deputise for the Senior General Manager. The Pathology Service, a fast‑paced and dynamic service, requires the candidate to build close working relationships with our clinicians and administrative teams and external stakeholders.

The Pathology Service is a clinically led service based at the RFH. All pathology services at the Royal Free London Foundation Trust are provided by Health Services Laboratories, Analytics (HSL), a joint venture company formed of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, University College London Hospital NHS Trust and The Doctors Laboratory.

• Line‑manage operational, administrative and support teams within the service.
• Deliver appraisal and mandatory training requirements for all staff within these teams.
• Lead the directorate performance management system to ensure understanding and adherence to Trust standards, and produce performance reports to enable divisional compliance.
• Support the governance arrangements within the directorate, including audit, complaints, incidents, risk and health and safety.
• Manage the service areas you are responsible for, ensuring the delivery of key targets within budgeted resources.
• Contribute to strategic and annual business planning for your services, engaging senior medical, nursing, APH colleagues and other staff as required.
• Coordinate the planning, development and implementation of service improvement, capital and other projects for the areas you are responsible for.
• Support clinical governance processes within your areas and assist clinical colleagues in the management of risk.
• Be responsible to the general manager for financial performance relating to delegated budgets and operational performance of the service.
• Deputise for the general manager and provide cross‑cover for other operations managers within the directorate/division as required.
