There is an exciting opportunity to join the Cardiology Department as a full‑time Patient Pathway Coordinator / Medical Secretary. The role offers an excellent platform to advance your career as a healthcare administrator within a thriving and busy service.
You will need relevant secretarial experience, enthusiasm for learning, and previous communication experience in a hospital setting. Demonstrable ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team is essential. You will interact with patients, nurses, doctors, consultants, administrators, managers and staff across the Trust, and you will need strong time‑management skills to balance a demanding workload. Prior experience providing administrative services in healthcare and aptitude for quickly learning healthcare systems are required.
Mainduties of the job
- Report directly to the Assistant Service Manager for Cardiology and work independently under direction.
- Collaborate within the care group and liaise with consultants and junior doctors.
- Deliver an effective patient pathway service, coordinating appointments, investigations and follow‑ups.
- Maintain accurate patient records using the Patient Administration System (iCLIP) and Electronic Patient Record (EPR) or equivalent.
- Support multidisciplinary team meetings and manage administrative materials for staff and patients.
- Ensure compliance with NHS priorities, confidentiality, data protection and complaints procedures.

- Computer and word‑processing skills, including email, directories, documents and mail merge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Experience with the Patient Administration System (iCLIP) and the Electronic Patient Record (EPR)
- Secretarial or administrative experience within a hospital setting
- Experience establishing and maintaining robust administrative systems
- Relevant knowledge of RTT pathways and validation
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and within cardiology
- Good general education, including GCSEs in Maths or English (or equivalent)
- Higher‑level education or a qualification in business administration or an equivalent NVQ
- Typing speed of 60 WPM
- AMSPAR certification
