Overview
We are delighted to be recruiting to the post of Practitioner Psychologist for the Evelina London Cleft Service (ELCS). This is an existing, full-time, permanent band 7 post to work alongside two other qualified Clinical Psychologists within the ELCS.
This is a lifespan service seeing individuals with a range of physical and psychological needs. The service sees children, young people, families and adults newly referred or returning for further care. The role involves working closely with professional colleagues in a collaborative manner to provide high quality, holistic care.
Role and responsibilitiesPractitioner Psychologists provide input to children, young people, adults and their families (CYPF) across the age range. Presenting needs can include adjustment, coping with bullying, challenges with self-esteem, and preparation for surgery, among others. The post holder will be based mas’ Hospital with a remit across the wider regional service. Clinically, contribute to patient care, development, monitoring and auditing of Clinical Psychology initiatives, and maintain a focus on continuing professional development (CPD) to stay up-to-date with developments in cleft and paediatric psychology.
Aboutthe Evelina London Cleft Service (ELCS)
The ELCS is a multidisciplinary team including nurses, speech and language therapists, surgeons, orthodontists, and paediatric dentists. The standard care pathway takes patients from diagnosis (including supporting parents antenatally) through to age 20, with the service also seeing adults returning for care. The service is regional; care is delivered through outpatient and inpatient sites at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital (GSTT) and outreach clinics across the region.
There are approximately 4500 active patients, with around 140 babies born with cleft lip/palate each year in the network.
Clinical Psychology makes an important contribution to patient care, and there is a commitment to service development, audit, and research within the ELCS. The post-holder is expected to contribute to CPD and ongoing professional development in paediatric psychology and related areas of child, adolescent and adult mental health.
