The General Manager (orthopaedics) is a key position within the Surgery & Cancer Divisional leadership team who is responsible for overseeing the day to day management and operational delivery of the Division's high quality, patient focused services whilst driving forward an exciting service improvement agenda
Main duties of the job- Be responsible for the operational delivery of Orthopaedic Services delivered at the Newham Hospital and ensure the safe and effective use of all resources.
Take the lead in achieving key performance targets in line with local and national agreements including constitutional standards, RTT and elective recovery, outpatient transformation and the delivery of Trust strategies.
In partnership with the service leads, take operational management responsibility for the delivery of service development and quality improvement projects, striving for high levels of patient and staff satisfaction across the Division.
Take responsibility for the collation, presentation and reporting of information. This includes the completion of weekly highlight report such as RTT, planning, and reporting packs for the monthly Performance Review meetings (operational & financial) Divisional Board and other monthly assurance meetings.
Act as a key stakeholder for the Orthopaedic Clinical Network representing Newham University Hospital alongside the Clinical Director and Clinical Lead. To problem solve and identify solutions across the Barts Health Group to optimise the Orthopaedic services delivered at Newham University Hospital, particularly Barts health Orthopaedic Centre.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications- Master's degree in healthcare or management; or demonstrable ability to work at master's level.
- Evidence of continued learning/development.
- Prince 2 or project management experience.
- Significant management experience in a senior role within the acute sector in particular operational management.
- Experience of managing strategic and operational performance in achieving key targets.
- Up-to-date knowledge of NHS system reform policy and other key policy drivers. (Performance Management, operating framework, capacity planning, payment by results, independent sector development and Foundation Trust issues).
- Proven record of financial management at senior level, delivering on complex and large budgets including reducing costs, monitoring and corrective action
- Successful delivery of cost improvement programmes
- Proven track record of meeting national targets including RTT and delivering cancer/elective recovery
- Knowledge and understanding of the modernisation agenda and the opportunities for redesigning services.
- Knowledge and experience of collaborating with external organisations, both NHS and nonNHS providers and adapting negotiating style to meet needs.
- Proven success at managing complex organisational change ? Previous experience while maintaining service quality with demonstrable impact on improving healthcare.
- Significant experience of staff management, including the setting of objectives, team and individual appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary issues.
- Evidence of reporting writing and presentation skills, to include business cases and formal presentations
- Proven experience of developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Proven leadership skills, development of a team.
- Ability to draft clear and concise business cases and papers
