An exciting new role within the SELSE HCC (South East London and South East Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre) has arisen.

NHS England established ten Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centres (HCCs) across England to lead and support networks of care for people living with sickle cell disease and thalassemia. Each HCC provides leadership, coordination, education and administration across its Network.

The South East London and the South East (SELSE) Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC) is jointly hosted by Guy's and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and King's College NHS Foundation Trust.

This role is for an Education Lead Nurse within the core HCC team. The Network Education Lead Nurse provides senior clinical and professional nursing leadership across the Haemoglobinopathy Network. Through strong visible clinical leadership, the post holder will ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, equitable and patient‑centred care for people with haemoglobinopathies and their families within the Network.

We are looking for a forward‑thinking senior nurse who has excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to lead, develop Haemoglobinopathy education in our region.

You must have a proven track record of progressive leadership, development and practice education, be an effective role model and be self‑motivated with the passion, drive and adaptability to cope with continuously changing service.

The Lead Nurse will lead on education and training, workforce development service development, quality assurance and patient experience across the Network, working collaboratively with the Network Clinical Leads & Nursing, the Senior Network Manager, local Clinical Leads & Nursing, multidisciplinary teams and external partners, including patient groups.

Core responsibilities of the role include:

• Workforce development, delivering Network‑wide education and training, building specialist nursing capability and staff support.
• Provide visible senior clinical and professional nursing leadership across the Network, working closely with the Network Clinical Leads, Senior Network Manager and multidisciplinary teams to deliver consistent high‑quality care.
• Lead in the development, integration, and continuous improvement of Haemoglobinopathy services across the Network, ensuring alignment with national standards, NICE guidance and best practice.
• Advocate for equitable, compassionate patient‑centred care supporting patients and their families to make informed decisions, improving patient experience across the Network.
