Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children's health care, currently delivering the widest range of specialist care of any children's hospital in the UK. It has the largest Paediatric Haematology and Oncology centre in Europe.

An opportunity has arisen in the Department of Haematology's Specialist Integrated Haematology Malignancy Diagnostic Service (Molecular section) for a suitably qualified Specialist Healthcare Scientist. This is an excellent post for an enthusiastic and scientifically innovative individual.

You must hold HCPC registration and ideally have experience in either a Haematology or Molecular laboratory. You must have a broad range of knowledge and experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Full training will be provided in the specialist area of Paediatric Molecular Haematology. Experience in molecular methods such as PCR and sequencing is desirable.

You will be part of the team running clinical diagnostic assays for patients with haematological malignancies and patients who underwent haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, gene therapy or CAR‑T cell therapy. All work is performed under the supervision of the Laboratory Managers and Senior Healthcare Scientists.

• BSc in Biological Sciences or equivalent
• HCPC registration
• Evidence of CPD
• MSc in Biological Sciences or equivalent

• Appropriate experience in an accredited clinical Haematology diagnostic laboratory or Molecular Laboratory
• Experience of paediatric clinical laboratory diagnostics
• Experience in molecular methods (PCR, sequencing)
• Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory standards i.e. ISO
  15189
• Experience of accreditation assessments
• Experience of training junior staff
• Experience and knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and tools
• Experience of change management

• Good analytical and judgemental skills with the ability to make informed decisions and give expert technical advice in complex situations
• Able to provide specialist advice to laboratory staff and users of the service
• Excellent and effective verbal and written communication
• Demonstrate good organisational skills i.e. manage own workload and meet deadlines
• Flexible, adaptable nature and able to prioritise and work in a changing environment
• Proven skills in the use of Microsoft office applications (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and databases
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
