STUDENT Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN)-Health Visiting or School Nursing sponsorship. September 2026 intake.

Band 5 - Training Post. Fixed Term 12 months

Southwest London (Wandsworth, Merton & Richmond).

We are recruiting motivated Registered Nurses, Midwives or Mental health nurses to undertake the NMC-approved level 7 SCPHN programme in Health Visiting or School Nursing. This full-time training post combines academic study with supervised practice within our community public health teams.

This one-year full time course will be jointly undertaken with our partner universities:
Kings College, Brunel University, and City St Georges University.
This is your chance to join our teams and to develop your career with the Trust. Alongside the support that you will receive from the University, you will be supported throughout your training by a passionate team of Practice Assessors/Supervisors in the 0-19 team, and the CLCH Academy.

Main duties of the job

Essential criteria: You must be Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)-registered Nurse (RN) or Midwife (RM) or Mental health Nurse (RMN) with active registration on part one, or part two of the NMC register.

(NMC PIN number should be provided within the application).

Must hold a 2.2 or above in a Nursing Degree (UK Level
6) Ability to study at level 7

Commitment to completing the SCPHN programme.

Job responsibilities

To fulfil the requirements of the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programme by attending university course dates and practice placement days in accordance with university regulations.

To work with the service, practice assessor/supervisors to develop the skills and competencies to achieve NMC Registration Standards for Specialist Community Practice.

With the support of the service, practice assessor / supervisor, to link the theoretical knowledge gained through the university programme to the practice situation.

To demonstrate an understanding of current and emerging national, regional and local healthcare legislation, policies and guidelines as they pertain to chosen pathway.

To develop/build on skills of caseload and team leadership and management.

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the public health agenda, and an understanding of how this relates to communities, children, families, and young people
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and commit to the academic timetable for the course
  • Evidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution
  • Experience of managing staff within a team
  • Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload
