Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist tojoin our Major Trauma Centre at St George's Hospital. This role provides an opportunity to work with patients with serious and life changing injuries, their families and staff members working within the Major Trauma service.

The post holder will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team where psychology is valued and well established. Alongside active clinical role, the post holder will have opportunities to shape and develop psychological care pathways within the Major Trauma Centre.

This role would be particularly suited to a candidate who is passionate about working in physical health and rehabilitation, and enjoys delivering brief therapeutic interventions.

Please note:

the majority of the face-to-face clinical work takes place on the trauma wards, in ICU or during joint rehabilitation sessions. This provides an opportunity to work creatively to deliver effective clinical psychology interventions. Service also offers brief outpatient interventions.

*** Main duties of the jobThe Psychology Service within the Major Trauma Centre rge's Hospital was established in May 2012 and it forms an important part of the Major Trauma service, supporting adult-aged patients across the entire service and hospital site.

Alongside staff teaching/training and consultation, clinical work is conducted with individual patients and their families. This work includes:o Helping people to make sense of their current thoughts, feelings and reactions in the context of their previous experience, the accident/assault, serious injury, medication andthe hospital environment.o Providing psychoeducation on psychological reactions post trauma, management of distress and coping with pain and invasive medical procedure so Assisting with problem-solving of current difficultieso Exploring barriers to engagement in rehabilitationo Supporting use of coping resources and resiliencieso Liaising with the wider multi-disciplinary team around preparation for discharge.

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.

Experience of psychological work with people with physical health problems.

Experience of working in NHS services.

Experience in acute hospital inpatient settings

Desirable

Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

Experience of the application of clinical health psychology in different cultural contexts.

Experience in acute hospital inpatient settings

Qualifications

Essential Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
