Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist to join our Medicine team in Pharmacy.

The postholder will assist in delivering and developing a consistently high-quality clinical pharmacy and medicines management service to patients within Acute Medicine including AMU (Acute Medical Unit), AAU (Acute Assessment Unit), respiratory Medicine and TREAT (triage readmissions elderly admissions team) services and support to Accident and Emergency unit. The role will also support the medicine pharmacy team who deliver services to the medical specialities including Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Immunology in accordance with the objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist.

The postholder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, service line leads and divisional managers for the relevant specialties to initiatives and guidelines to ensure safe and cost-effective use of medicines in the Medicine team, and across the interface between primary and secondary care. The postholder will also support the commissioning processes for the safe use of Intravenous Immunoglobulin within the Trust.

Potential candidates will have experience working as a band 7 pharmacist at minimum, with experience of working in Medicine and other associated specialities. You will be comfortable working with nursing and medical staff at ward level. Previous experience of high-cost drug processes and writing of drug reviews and clinical guidelines would also be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

Act as a deputy for Principal Pharmacist when necessary
To provide a high-quality clinical pharmacy service as part of the multidisciplinary team to medical specialities patients, to ensure maximum efficacy, safety, and economic drug use and to demonstrate professional accountability to enhance patient care.
To act as a clinical role model, and support training and supervision of junior members of the pharmacy team
Development and implementation of clinical guidelines
Effective control of drug expenditure and management of processes regarding high-cost drugs
To support the commissioning and funding processes for intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) including adherence to the national NHSE commissioning policy and evaluation of evidence for use
To participate in audits and practice research
To work with the clinical risk team to minimise the risk of medicines

Person Specification Education and Professional Qualifications Essential

MPharm or equivalent
Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Post graduate diploma in pharmacy practice or equivalent

Significant demonstrable experience of working in hospital-based pharmacy, some experience as a specialist clinical pharmacist and experience working within medicine and /or medical specialties
