The post holder will work as an independent, specialist Cardiac Physiologist, delivering a high-quality, patient-centred service across a wide range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostic investigations. They will be responsible for the performance, analysis, and reporting of complex diagnostic tests, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely patient care.

The role will be primarily based within Cardiac Suite 6 and the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories, with a requirement for flexible working to meet service demands. A collaborative, cross-functional team approach is essential to support efficient service delivery across the department.

This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop specialist expertise in areas such as Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), interventional and structural cardiology, and complex Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM), supported by ongoing professional development.

The post holder will demonstrate strong organisational skills, flexibility, and reliability, with a commitment to teaching and supporting junior staff and students. Rotation across cardiac physiology services is required to maintain competencies, alongside participation in the emergency on-call rota, including primary angioplasty and emergency arrhythmia pathways.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high-quality cardiac physiology service across a wide range of non-invasive and invasive investigations, including ambulatory monitoring, exercise testing, CPET, and head-up tilt testing, with responsibility for accurate analysis and reporting.

They will support complex cardiac catheter laboratory activity, including diagnostic, interventional, and structural procedures, and participate in the primary angioplasty on-call rota and emergency arrhythmia pathway.

The role includes specialist support for cardiac rhythm management services, including device implantation, follow-up, and optimisation (pacemakers, ICDs, CRT), alongside contribution to remote monitoring services.

The post holder will manage and prioritise clinical workload, support inpatient triage, and ensure high standards of documentation, patient safety, and clinical governance. They will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to service development, quality improvement, and resource management.

In addition, the role includes supervision, teaching, and support of junior staff and students, alongside a commitment to continuous professional development, audit, and clinical excellence.
