Communities & Skills

Collaborative, open, inclusive and fair - we work with and through partners to ensure Londoners can shape healthy, empowered and productive lives. Communities and Skills is led by Executive Director, Tunde Olayinka and comprises the Health, Performance, Collaboration and Coordination, Skills and Employment, Social and Economic Inclusion, and Young Londoners and Communities Units.

About The Team

These two roles sit within a small, friendly health and care partnerships sub-team within the GLA’s new Health Unit.

About

The Role

At the Greater London Authority (GLA), we know that good health is shaped not just by healthcare, but by systems, communities and leadership. We’re looking for an experienced and politically astute policy and delivery professional to help drive forward the Mayor’s vision for a healthier, more equal London — by working hand in hand with the health and care system to shape real change.

This new role is an exciting opportunity to lead key areas of our health and care partnerships work. You’ll play a central role in delivering the Mayor’s priorities — from shaping how the GLA works with the NHS and local partners, to driving forward work on NHS reforms, and London’s broader health inequalities agenda.

You’ll lead and support strategic health partnerships across London. You’ll work closely with senior health leaders, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), London boroughs and NHS partners, brought together in the new London Health Improvement Board, to help deliver the Mayor's health priorities and reduce health inequalities. You’ll also be part of a ‘one London’ virtual partnership team led by the Office of the London Partnership and the GLA’s Head of Health to support delivery of partnership priorities, including the London Health Improvement Plan.

You’ll work with senior leaders across health, local government and the community sector. Success in this role depends on your ability to build trust, spot policy and delivery opportunities, and respond with agility to emerging priorities — often in fast-moving or politically sensitive contexts.

You’ll have strong leadership skills and be able to work strategically across organisations and sectors. You’ll drive delivery and bring an astute policy brain and collaborative spirit to complex challenges. You’ll also be agile, flexible and operate well under pressure.

A background of working in or with the public health sector – with an understanding of London’s health and care landscape, and the players within - would be advantageous but not essential.

What your day will look like
  • Building and managing new and existing partnerships across the NHS, local authorities and voluntary sector organizations
  • Managing programmes including governance arrangements, budgets, and commissioned projects linked to the London Health and Care Partnership and London Health Improvement Board
  • Providing strategic advice and briefings to senior stakeholders, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayors, and Assembly Members
  • Line managing, supporting and developing a more junior member of staff

  • Experience of working with, or alongside, the public and private sector and a good understanding of the differences in their perspectives and values.
