The Senior Clinical Pharmacist will perform a dual role, with some clinical pharmacist responsibilities (as outlined in the Clinical Pharmacist Job Description) and providing managerial support and clinical supervision to their direct reports within the Clinical Pharmacist team.

Directly reporting to the Regional Lead Pharmacist, they will oversee the daily operations, training, and mentorship of Clinical Pharmacists under them. Their responsibilities will include ensuring the pharmacy services meet specified Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements. They will support the Regional Leads to always deliver the service to the highest standard and to devise and execute action plans aimed at meeting and enhancing performance targets and Key Performance Indicators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Accountabilities
  • Under the guidance of the Regional Leads, develop and implement operational strategies to optimise pharmacy services and enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Lead Pharmacist to ensure the effective allocation of resources and staffing levels to meet service demands.
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration between the Dispensary and the Clinical Pharmacist team to develop strategies for minimising the impact of out-of-stock situations on patient care and improving product availability, by providing clinical input on product selection and rationalisation.
  • Implement and monitor standard operating procedures to streamline workflows, standardise pharmacist tasks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement, finance, and IT, to address operational issues and implement cross-functional initiatives.
  • Conduct regular reviews and performance assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the pharmacy team.
  • Respond promptly to operational challenges and emergencies, implementing contingency plans to minimise disruptions to service delivery.
  • Provide leadership in implementing new technologies and systems to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
  • Contribute to organising and planning of corporate events such as annual Clinical Conference and training events, including presenting where appropriate.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning discussions to align operational objectives with the overall goals of the organisation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the pharmacy team, encouraging innovation and proactive problem-solving to drive operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures that support efficient and effective pharmacy services.
  • Support with new site set up to ensure smooth onboarding from both a services and supplies perspective as well as pharmacy provision. Also, assistance will be necessary for the demobilisation process following site closures.
  • Support the Regional Leads in managing budgets and financial resources allocated to pharmacy services, ensuring cost-effective practices and optimal resource utilisation.
  • Assisting the Regional Leads in transitioning the workforce towards a multi-modal working model across all sectors served by Ashtons’ pharmacy services. This includes, but is not limited to, mental health, palliative care, health and justice, ophthalmic, and surgical sectors.
Leadership
  • Set and maintain the highest standards of compliance and quality assurance within pharmacy services, supporting Lead Pharmacists in ensuring regulatory requirements are met.
