Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Waltham Forest Clinical Health Psychological Services as a band 6 qualified Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP). The successful post holder will work as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team providing psychologically informed assessment, formulation and evidence‑based interventions for adults experiencing psychological difficulties associated with physical health conditions, including long‑term conditions, adjustment to health and medically unexplained symptoms.

The successful candidate will be working under the supervision of a qualified HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist and play a vital role in improving access to psychological therapies, support recovery, promote community engagement, including partnership‑working with various stakeholders. The role provides an opportunity to collaborate with patients, carers, healthcare professionals, community organisations and voluntary sector partners to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care.

• Deliver psychological assessments, formulation and evidence‑based interventions for adults with complex mental health presentations in the context of physical health conditions.
• Assessments and interventions will be delivered in person, telephone or digital platform.
• Develop collaborative treatment plans and support service users to achieve agreed recovery and wellbeing goals.
• Undertake risk assessments and contribute to the psychological management of risk in accordance with service policies and procedures.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, primary care, secondary care services, social care, community organisations and voluntary sector partners to coordinate care and improve outcomes.
• Support the development of psychologically informed care across health and social care settings, acting as a psychological resource to colleagues and partner organisations.
• Contribute to service evaluation, audit, quality improvement initiatives and research activity to enhance service delivery and patient experience.
• Work closely with lived experience representatives and local communities to co‑produce and co‑develop services.
• Participate in regular clinical and managerial supervision.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, prepare reports and correspondence as required.
• Receive opportunities for continuing professional development, reflective practice, training.

As a CAP, you will be responsible for undertaking comprehensive psychological assessments and developing formulations that enhance understanding of the emotional, behavioural and social factors affecting an individual's physical and mental health. Using evidence‑based approaches, you will deliver psychological interventions, to support improved health outcomes and quality of life. Interventions will be delivered individually or in a group and the role may involve working across multiple sites.

You will work collaboratively with service users, carers and support networks to promote engagement, recovery, including understanding the relationship between physical and psychological health. Alongside this, you will deliver culturally sensitive, inclusive and equitable person‑centred care, recognising the impact of diversity and health inequalities for all service users.
