Job summary

The post holder will be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.

The post holder will support their peers and team leader and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will supervise pre-registration students. They will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and agencies.

The post holder will work as a member of the Community Learning Disability Team, to provide an efficient, effective and co-ordinated speech and language therapy service.

The post holder will take a lead role for your clinical area overseeing the whole caseload and providing clinical support for team members.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will take a lead role in working with young people in transition with learning difficulties providing clinical support for team members.
  • To assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment and management for adults with learning disabilities who also have communication, eating and/or swallowing difficulties, and may also have challenging behavior, providing the service to clients across Redbridge in a community person-centered domiciliary role.
  • To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day today allocation of work.
  • To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
  • To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register
  • To work as part of an integrated community learning disability team which will include contribution to co-ordination of case management across various health and social care disciplines.
  • To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them, particularly moving and handling

Job responsibilities

Welcome Payment

This post is eligible for the Trust 'Welcome to NELFT' Payment, a lump sum of 10% of agreed basic salary (pro rata if part time and exclusive of HCAS payments) (subject to a minimum of £4,000 and maximum of £10,000) and is open to all new applicants who are successfully appointed. Payment of the incentive is 50% of the lump sum at the end of the probationary period (typically six months) and then 50% at the end of year two.
