Paediatric Clinical Psychologist

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative Clinical Psychologist to join the Psychological and Mental Health Services (PAMHS) at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This post will involve working with children and families who access the hospital under the care of the 13 surgical specialties on an inpatient and outpatient basis. This post will provide psychological assessment and interventions to children with a range of medical conditions and their families, working closely with specialist paediatric consultants and allied health professionals.

You will be working with the Surgery Psychology Stream who offer psychological input to children under the care of 13 surgical specialties, particularly with cleft, but also including others such as orthopaedics, maxfax, spinal and ENT. You will contribute to the flexible delivery of psychology services across the stream, in response to new developments and organisational changes.

We are looking for someone who is confident in working within physical health and/or work with children and young people and who is keen to further develop clinical skills in this area. Experience and interest in delivery of psychological interventions in groups would be welcomed, as would an interest in working with young people with procedural distress.

We are one of three paediatric psychology streams within the hospital and sit within the wider psychological and mental health services (PAMHS). It is an exciting time to join PAMHS after the recent launch of the PAMHS strategy and as we settle in to our new clinical and office space.

As a psychology team we draw on a range of therapeutic modalities including Narrative therapy, CBT, Systemic, ACT, Compassion focussed therapy, attachment and mentalisation based approaches. There are opportunities to work in creative formulation driven ways with young people and families and you will have the opportunity to offer individual, family, parent and group psychological intervention as part of this role as well as the opportunities to work with external agencies and within GOSH MDT’s.

A range of academic teaching is offered within the department as well as special interest groups in medicalised trauma, medically unexplained symptoms, narrative therapy, cognitive assessment, and others. Utilisation of research skills for audit, policy and service development and research is encouraged.
