Great Ormond Street Hospital is recruiting a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join its APOA and Sedation Team.

This role offers an opportunity to support high-quality, child-centred pre-operative assessment and nurse-led sedation services. The successful candidate will work closely with registered nurses, anaesthetists, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) and other multidisciplinary teams across the hospital.

The role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities, helping ensure that children and young people are appropriately assessed, prepared and supported before general anaesthesia or nurse-led sedation.

As a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant, you will:

• Provide compassionate, high-quality care to children, young people and their families.
• Work effectively as part of the APOA and Sedation Team.
• Support pre-operative assessment and nurse-led sedation services.
• Carry out clinical and non-clinical duties delegated by registered healthcare professionals.
• Work under the appropriate level of supervision and within your training and competence.
• Follow relevant clinical standards, policies, procedures and protocols.
• Communicate effectively with children, families and members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Take responsibility for your own work and act appropriately on the results of your activities.
• Work independently within your designated area of responsibility.
• Promote and demonstrate good practice.
• Support and supervise colleagues where required.
• Maintain the values, standards and expected behaviours of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Applicants should have:

• GCSE Grade 4–9 in English and Mathematics, or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications.
• An NVQ Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or a relevant equivalent qualification.
• Alternatively, a recognised Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 qualification.
• Evidence of an accepted Care Certificate.

The Care Certificate must include evidence of both the online or workbook component and workplace-based skills development and assessment. Care Certificates completed entirely online are not accepted.

Applicants should also be willing to undertake relevant in-house study and training as required.
