**** Why this Role is Important
** The Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP), reporting to the Director, Employee and Labour Relations, plays a key role in supporting leaders and teams through complex and evolving challenges. The HRBP partners closely with their portfolio to provide practical, trusted HR guidance that helps leaders make informed, people-centred decisions aligned with the College’s strategic priorities.
Working as a strategic advisor, the HRBP supports leaders across organizational design, staffing and position structures, employee and labour relations, investigations, performance management, and workforce planning. This role requires sound judgment, strong collaboration, and a steady presence—ensuring human resource practices are fair, compliant, and responsive to both operational needs and employee experience.
** How You’ll Make an Impact
**** Employee & Labour Relations
*** Provide expert guidance to ensure compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, and regulatory requirements
* Lead and support employee and labour relations matters, including investigations, performance concerns, misconduct, harassment and discrimination, discipline, terminations, restructures, and layoffs, while managing organizational risk
* Conduct fact-finding investigations, analyze evidence, prepare reports, briefing notes, recommendations, and disciplinary documentation
* Within the assigned portfolio act as the HR lead for grievances and dispute resolution within the portfolio, including preparation, representation, arbitration participation, and job classification matters
* Educate and advise leaders on the application and interpretation of collective agreement provisions
** HR Consultation & Advisory Support
*** Partner with portfolio leaders to understand operational needs and provide practical, people-centred HR advice and coaching
* Provide interpretation and consultation on HR policies, practices, legislation, and collective agreements
* Support leaders on performance management, attendance, accommodations, leaves, workforce planning, and employee development
* Collaborate on organizational and structural reviews, including job design, job descriptions, job evaluations, and evaluation committees
* Conduct risk, cost, and impact analysis and support the implementation of approved organizational recommendations
* In conjunction with Organizational Development & Learning identifies training needs and opportunities within their portfolio
* Provides formal and informal training and guidance to leaders on HR best practice for people management, enhancing leader’s human resource knowledge
** HR Operations & Projects
*** Lead and support recruitment activities as required, including mid-level leadership roles and peak hiring periods
* Guide leaders through interview design, candidate assessment, and selection in alignment with best practices and legislative requirements
* Provide HR operational support related to compensation, benefits, leaves, payroll, and employee programs
* Partner with Disability Management and leaders on accommodations and return-to-work planning
* Support HR reporting, data accuracy, analytics, and corporate HR initiatives
* Participate in HR committees, training, special projects, and the implementation of HR and College strategic priorities
** All Other Duties as Assigned.
**** What You’ll Bring
*** Post secondary 3-year diploma/degree in Human Resources or related discipline
* CHRL designation preferred
* 7 years' of progressive generalist experience with demonstrated experience providing a full range of HR consultation in a unionized environment
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
* Knowledge of human resources and labour relations principles, procedures, practices and relevant legislation
* Advanced critical thinking and problem solving
* Ability to engage stakeholders through superior communication, and influence and negotiate solutions to challenging issues
* Proactively approaches work and takes initiative
* Team player
