Overview

Referment is exclusively partnering with a leading construction and infrastructure business to appoint an experienced Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of a high-volume, hourly-paid, blue-collar or operational workforce payroll operating across multiple live projects.

This is not a routine payroll position. This role requires a payroll specialist with deep experience in the operational realities of site-based environments - such as construction, facilities management, or hospitality. You will understand mobile work forces, live project deadlines, clocking variances, and complex pay arrangements and can bring structure, accuracy and process improvement to a fast-paced setting.

• The Payroll Specialist will manage complex, multi-site payroll operations including
• Electronic timesheets and clocking data
• Overtime, travel time and lodge allowances
• Shift premiums and standby arrangements
• Multi-site workforce processing
• Construction-specific pay frameworks (CIJC or similar where applicable)
• Time & Attendance systems (e.g. Donseed, Eque2, Mitrefinch, UKG or equivalent)

You will be working closely with site operatives, direct labour teams and operational leaders, ensuring payroll accuracy across a high-volume, hourly-paid population.

• Simplify and improve complex payroll workflows
• Increase time & attendance accuracy
• Reduce manual intervention and inefficiencies
• Strengthen site-level payroll data processes
• Act as a trusted payroll advisor to operational stakeholders

This is a visible and respected position within a project-driven organisation where payroll plays a critical operational role.

• Has extensive, hands-on experience managing high-volume, hourly payroll for a blue-collar or operational workforce. Your background must be in a dynamic, fast-paced setting such as construction, hospitality, facilities management, or logistics.
• Understands site-based pay structures and workforce complexities.
• Demonstrates a recent and continuous employment history.
• Shows a stable career path with clear evidence of growth and progression, ideally within a single company.
• Has experience focused exclusively on UK payroll operations and regulations.
• Is comfortable working five days per week in-office.
• Wants greater ownership and operational influence.
• Enjoys improving systems and processes, not simply maintaining them.
