Overview

This Skills & Workforce Manager role offers a rare opportunity to sit at the intersection of industry, government and academia, helping shape the future talent pipeline for one of the UK's most strategically important technology sectors. If you've worked within semiconductors, electronics or another deep-tech environment and want to influence how the next generation of engineers and technical specialists are developed, this is a chance to have impact far beyond a single organisation.

The role operates on a hybrid basis, with an expectation of approximately 2 days per week in London, although travel across the UK will form a significant part of the position. Our client plays a central role within the UK semiconductor ecosystem, working closely with government, industry leaders, universities, training providers and policymakers. Following recent expansion of its remit, the organisation is taking a leading role in shaping future technology skills pathways, workforce planning and industry engagement initiatives.

As the Skills & Workforce Manager, you'll help bridge the gap between technical industry needs and skills policy, ensuring workforce programmes remain relevant to the rapidly evolving semiconductor and deep-tech landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the development of workforce and skills initiatives.
  • Working with industry, academia and government stakeholders to identify future skills requirements.
  • Helping shape curriculum guidance, training pathways and workforce development programmes.
  • Coordinating industry advisory groups, stakeholder engagements and ecosystem activities.
  • Supporting research, skills forecasting and workforce mapping across the UK semiconductor sector.
  • Delivering presentations, workshops and industry-facing events.
  • Building relationships with employers, universities, training providers and government bodies.
  • Supporting the development of tools and resources that improve visibility of technical training and CPD opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Background within semiconductors, electronics or another advanced technology sector.
  • Interest in workforce development, education, skills strategy or policy.
  • Ability to engage confidently with stakeholders across industry, government and academia.
  • Strong presentation, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Organised, proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Understanding of the UK technology ecosystem and talent challenges facing engineering businesses.

There are very few opportunities like this in the market. Rather than focusing on one company's growth, you'll help influence the future workforce of an entire industry. You'll combine technical understanding with strategic thinking, working on everything from skills forecasting and apprenticeship pathways to national technology initiatives and industry engagement programmes. It's an ideal opportunity for someone with a semiconductor or deep-tech background who enjoys people, collaboration and making a broader impact on the sector.
