Data Engineer – Insurance – London Hybrid – up to £80,000
Looking for a founding data engineer to join an insurance scale‑up in London that specialises in non‑standard home insurance. The role supports the future development of the Data Engineering capability, alongside supporting Pricing and Data Science teams to create impactful results by improving data quality and pipelines that feed into the pricing platform.
In a nutshell, you will own the data engineering function and collaborate to improve and complete the migration onto Azure so that Pricing and Data Science can maximise their output.
Responsibilities- Own and own the data engineering function across the organisation.
- Collaborate and support Pricing and Data Science teams to improve data quality and data pipelines feeding into the pricing platform.
- Lead the migration of data solutions onto Azure, ensuring smooth transition and optimisation of performance.
- Design and build scalable data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
- Maintain and optimise existing data infrastructure, including SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and Azure Synapse.
- Implement and maintain data governance and security processes.
- Monitor and troubleshoot end‑to‑end data pipelines from ingestion to analytics.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
- Experience in SQL and pdb, and production‑grade experience building data pipelines.
- Advanced Python skills – ability to write reusable code and automate processes.
- Knowledge of pricing and actuarial business area and its data requirements.
- Experience with Azure data ecosystem –‑Synapse, Data Factory, Data Lake, and related services.
- Solid understanding of data engineering best practices, including data modeling, staging, ETL/ELT, and data quality.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

- Salary range: £77,400 – £116,000 (depends on experience).
