Location: Greater London

Join Barclays as an Enterprise Data Architect – BPL and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Barclaycard as it evolves into a new legal entity outside the bank. This is a unique opportunity to design and govern the migration of complex data landscapes, building new systems, tools, and robust data governance frameworks from the ground up. You’ll define how data is classified, transferred, protected, and managed in a highly regulated environment, setting clear policies that ensure compliance, security, and long-term scalability.

While this is an individual contributor role, your impact will be wide-reaching: multiple engineering teams will rely on your expertise and architectural direction as you influence decisions across the organisation. If you thrive at the intersection of data architecture, governance, and transformation and want your work to have real, lasting impact, this role gives you the opportunity to shape how a new organisation manages its data.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Hands‑on experience with AWS, including streaming technologies (Kafka/Kinesis), and the design of Data Lakes and Data Warehouses using SQL and No

    SQL databases.
  • Solid knowledge of Data Governance, including data lineage, ownership, and classification, with familiarity in regulatory frameworks such as GDPR and PCI.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to own the target architecture and collaborate effectively with engineering, risk, compliance, and finance teams.
  • Mandatory experience in financial services or healthcare, working with highly sensitive data under strict regulatory requirements.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Card acquiring domain expertise.
  • Experience in API and event schema design.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Amazon Redshift.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job‑specific technical skills.

The successful candidate will be based in London
. Our offices are located at 7 Westferry Circus (new BPL office). We support a hybrid working pattern with 3 days per week office‑based presence expected.

Barclays’ payments acceptance business provides critical infrastructure to the UK economy, processing billions of pounds of payments annually for both small businesses and domestic and international corporate clients.

In April 2025, we announced a long‑term partnership with Brookfield Asset Management to grow and transform the payments acceptance business by broadening the range of services offered, enhancing the experience for both existing and prospective clients. Leveraging extensive client relationships and deep experience of UK payments, we will create an environment of continuous innovation - activated by Brookfield’s global private equity expertise in payments, technology, operational transformation and corporate carve‑outs - to ensure the business is strategically positioned for long‑term growth.

Barclays will invest approximately £400m in the new business, the majority of which will be incurred during the first three years. Performance‑linked incentives will drive greater alignment between the partners, underpinning the long‑term commitment to the transformation. Barclays and Brookfield will work to create a standalone entity over time, continuing to use the Barclaycard Payments (BPL) brand and acting as the sole payments acceptance services provider to Barclays’ clients for a minimum of ten years.
