Overview

The People Powered Experience (PPX) team is responsible for differentiating Depop from other marketplaces through our community and driving growth externally through word-of-mouth. As Staff Product Manager, you will be the sole PM in this high-stakes product area, leading the charge from zero-to-one. Your mission is to take differentiating products - like our newly launched Outfits - from early adoption to full product-market fit (PMF) across both in-app community experiences and external word-of-mouth advocacy.

Reporting directly to the Product Director, you will act as a strategic pillar within the organization, navigating the intersection of social commerce and technical innovation. You will move with agility, utilizing AI and rapid experimentation to define the future of how our community interacts.

Responsibilities
  • Strategy and Roadmap
    • Strategic Ownership:
Define and own the long-term vision for the PPX space. You are responsible for ensuring the roadmap aligns with Depop's mission to be the most community-led marketplace in the world.
    • High-Velocity Adaptation:
Exhibit agility by incorporating learnings into the roadmap in significantly quicker cycles than standard product areas. You must be comfortable pivoting based on rapid feedback loops to reach PMF.
    • Dual-Track Growth:
Develop strategies that simultaneously drive in-app engagement (People Powered) and external advocacy (Word of Mouth), ensuring a cohesive experience that turns users into brand ambassadors.
    • Zero-to-One Mastery:
Lead the transition of nascent products from initial launch to a core, scalable part of the business, balancing long-term strategic goals with the immediate need for iteration.
  • Deciding What to Build
    • Technical Synthesis and Challenge:
Demonstrate deep fluency in technical concepts such as ranking, recommendations, and AI-driven curation. You should be able to hold your own in high-level technical discussions, challenging engineering partners to ensure we are building the most effective solutions.
    • Navigating Uncertainty:
Excel in a high-uncertainty environment, making high-quality decisions with incomplete data and maintaining momentum when the path forward is non-linear.
    • Insight Advocacy:
Partner with UXR and Data Science to push insights toward the right questions. You don't just consume research; you direct it to uncover the levers that will truly drive community-led growth.
  • Alignment and Influence
    • Executive & Broad Stakeholder Management:
Align a diverse and senior stakeholder group— including Executive leadership, Marketing, and Influencer teams— on the PPX vision and progress.
    • Organizational Influence:
As a Staff PM, you will influence the broader Product organization. You will be a key voice in the senior product group, helping to level up our collective product craft and ensuring PPX is integrated into the wider ecosystem.
    • External-Internal Bridge:
Seamlessly collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure the product roadmap supports and amplifies Word of Mouth and external advocacy efforts.
    • Effective Crisis Communication:
Lead through "bumps in the road" with composure, ensuring stakeholders stay informed and confident even when experiments don't go as planned.
  • Requirements
    • Proven Staff-Level Leadership:
Significant experience as a Product Manager, specifically in a "Staff" or "Senior" capacity, with a track record of driving zero-to-one products to PMF.
    • Technical Depth:
Comfortable with the mechanics of AI-driven curation and discovery. You can talk "ranking" with engineers and "strategy" with leadership.
    • High-Stakes Communication:
Ability to communicate a compelling vision to everyone from an entry-level engineer to the Executive team.
    • Marketplace or Social Fluency:
Deep understanding of the mechanics of two-sided marketplaces and the social triggers that drive community engagement.
    • Strong Sense of Ownership:
You are highly organized and proactive, creating order in high-ambiguity environments and getting satisfaction from delivering high-quality outcomes.
Nice to Have (Useful, But Not Essential)
    • Experience working in zero to one products
    • Experience in a marketplace business, or 2-sided content platform
    • Technical…
