About the RoleWe’re looking for an experienced Infrastructure Automation Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team at Hampshire Trust Bank. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in modernising and automating our infrastructure estate across both on‑premises and cloud environments. You'll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining scalable automation solutions that improve resilience, consistency, security and operational efficiency across the bank.
Working closely with infrastructure, security and transformation teams, you'll help drive our automation strategy, reduce manual processes, embed Dev Ops best practices and support the delivery of secure, reliable technology services.
Key ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure Automation
- Design, develop and maintain infrastructure automation solutions across on‑premises and cloud platforms
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Ansible and Power Shell
- Automate provisioning, configuration, patching and decommissioning processes
- Build reusable, modular and secure automation frameworks aligned to enterprise standards
- Reduce manual intervention and configuration drift across environments
- Improve infrastructure resilience, consistency and stability through automation
- Support incident resolution through automated remediation and recovery processes
- Participate in out‑of‑hours support for critical infrastructure or automation incidents where required
- Contribute to infrastructure modernisation initiatives across the technology estate
- Integrate automation workflows with version control, testing and approval processes
- Embed quality gates, testing and validation into infrastructure delivery pipelines
- Promote Dev Ops principles and automation best practices across the wider technology teams
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive or high‑risk activities
- Ensure automation solutions align with security‑by‑design principles
- Embed security controls including secrets management, least privilege access and audit logging
- Support internal and external audits through traceable and repeatable deployment processes
- Maintain compliant and auditable infrastructure standards
- Maintain clear technical documentation, runbooks and operational guides
- Share knowledge and support capability development across infrastructure and operations teams
- Champion continuous improvement and innovation within the function
- Server, Network and Desktop teams

- Colleagues across the wider bank
- Strong experience with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code
- Hands‑on experience with tools such as:
- Power Shell, Bash or Python
- Terraform, Ansible or Puppet
- REST APIs, Postman and cURL
- YAML and automation frameworks
- Strong Windows and Linux administration knowledge
- Experience with Microsoft Power Automate and Microsoft Configuration Manager
- Understanding of VMware, networking and enterprise infrastructure
- Experience with Docker and containerisation technologies
- Knowledge of Git Hub and version control best practices
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments
- Interest in AI‑driven automation and technologies such as Microsoft Copilot
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical capability
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Customer‑focused mindset with a focus on service excellence
