As we continue to support the delivery of critical transport and ticketing services, we are seeking a Database Administrator to join our IT Operations team. This role is responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of business‑critical database platforms and associated systems.
Working closely with application development, infrastructure, security, and operational teams, the Database Administrator will ensure the availability, performance, security, and resilience of production and non‑production database environments. The role plays a key part in supporting business continuity, system optimisation, and the reliable delivery of customer‑facing services.
KeyDuties Include:
- Administer, maintain, and support customer‑facing SQL Server environments and associated test and development systems.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning, optimisation, and automation initiatives to improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
- Support and maintain mission‑critical database platforms, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Work closely with application development teams to review database structures, SQL code, stored procedures, and system integrations.
- Design and implement database solutions, including data migration, system configuration, and database enhancements.
- Develop and maintain automated data flows and integrations between business systems.
- Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes, ensuring business continuity requirements are met.
- Participate in the planning, testing, and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.
- Proactively monitor production and test environments, identifying and resolving issues before they impact service delivery.
- Investigate and troubleshoot complex technical incidents, providing subject matter expertise and timely resolution.
- Manage database security, user administration, and access controls in line with company policies and industry best practice.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and operational standards.
- Support audits and work collaboratively with internal and external security and compliance stakeholders.
- Participate in an on‑call support rota and provide out‑of‑hours support during critical incidents when required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, quality standards, and health, safety, security, and environmental requirements.
